Preparation steps:

1. Clean clams thoroughly under cold water.
2. Discard any open or damaged clams.
3. Soak clams in cold salted water for 20 minutes.
4. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
5. Cook spaghetti until slightly underdone (al dente).
6. Drain spaghetti, reserving some pasta water.
