Preparation steps:

1. Gather all ingredients: ricotta cheese, sugar, candied fruits, chocolate chips, sponge cake, marzipan, and icing.
2. Drain ricotta cheese using a fine sieve or cheesecloth.
3. Mix ricotta with sugar until smooth.
4. Chop candied fruits and mix with ricotta and chocolate chips.
5. Line a bowl with plastic wrap.
6. Slice sponge cake into layers.
7. Line the bowl with sponge cake slices.
8. Fill the cake-lined bowl with ricotta mixture.
9. Cover with another layer of sponge cake.
10. Press down gently to compact.
11. Wrap with plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for several hours.
12. Unmold onto a serving platter.
13. Roll out marzipan and cover the cassata.
14. Prepare icing and pour over the marzipan.
15. Decorate with additional candied fruits.
