Ingredients:

Whole milk

Preparation steps:

1. In a saucepan, heat 500 ml of whole milk and 200 ml of heavy cream until just simmering. Remove from heat.
2. In a bowl, whisk 150 g of sugar and 5 egg yolks until pale and creamy.
3. Slowly add the warm milk mixture to the egg yolks, stirring continuously.
4. Return mixture to the saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Do not boil.
5. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
6. Cool the mixture completely, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
7. Churn in an ice cream maker following the manufacturer's instructions.
8. Transfer to a container, freeze until firm, and serve.
