Preparation steps:

1. Rinse 250g of chickpeas under cold water. Soak them overnight in a bowl of water.
2. Drain and transfer to a pot with fresh water, cover, and bring to a boil. Simmer until tender, about 45 minutes. Drain and set aside.
3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat.
4. Add 1 teaspoon mustard seeds; allow them to crackle.
5. Add a pinch of asafoetida and 1-2 dried red chilies. Saute briefly.
6. Stir in 10 curry leaves, cooking until fragrant.
7. Add the boiled chickpeas, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder. Mix well.
8. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
9. Add 2 tablespoons of grated coconut. Mix and cook for another minute.
10. Remove from heat, garnish with fresh cilantro, and serve warm.
