Preparation steps:

1. Soak 1 cup of rice and 1/4 cup of urad dal in water for 4-5 hours.
2. Drain and blend with 1/4 cup water into a smooth batter; let it ferment overnight.
3. Add salt, 1 finely chopped onion, 1 chopped green chili, and 1 tablespoon grated coconut to the batter.
4. Heat a paniyaram pan (or use an aebleskiver pan) over medium heat and add a few drops of oil to each cavity.
5. Pour batter into each cavity, filling it 3/4 full.
6. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the edges are golden.
7. Flip gently and cook the other side until golden brown.
8. Remove and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
