Preparation steps:

1. Rinse 1 cup lentils under cold water.
2. Chop 1 onion, 2 carrots, and 2 celery stalks.
3. Mince 2 garlic cloves.
4. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
5. Saute onion, carrots, and celery until soft.
6. Add minced garlic and saute for 1 minute.
7. Stir in 1 can of tomatoes (crushed or diced).
