Preparation steps:

1. Marinate fish with turmeric and salt for 15 minutes.
2. Heat oil in a pan; fry fish until golden. Remove and set aside.
3. In the same oil, add bay leaves and cumin seeds; saute for 30 seconds.
4. Add chopped onions; cook until golden brown.
5. Stir in ginger-garlic paste, tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, and coriander; cook until oil separates.
6. Pour in water; bring to a boil.
7. Gently add fish; simmer for 10 minutes.
8. Season with salt; finish with fresh cilantro.
9. Serve hot with steamed rice.
